Over and Out

Over and Out is a multi-vocal exhibition showcasing the works of fifteen artists as they bring their residency at ACME studios to a close. Featuring sculpture, installation, textiles, painting, drawing, video and other mediums, the works carry with them the experiments, discoveries and play that shaped them throughout the residences, forming a chorus of distinct voices.

The Exhibition reminds us of the temporal nature of opportunities and artistic journeys, inviting us to reflect on the transitional moments between searching, creating and ending. Reflecting on the current concerns threading the group’s practices, transmitted like a crackly message through a two-way radio between the artists and us.

We are invited to tune the signal and listen for points of resonance or friction amongst the messages and static noise. On one channel, voices engage with found objects and personal relics to reveal narratives about

memory, domesticity and intimacy. In it, materials become storytellers, used to craft and reveal poignant reflections on desire, privacy, and identity. On another channel, selfhood is explored through the lens of faith, devotion, and grief, tracing how these emotions shape our lives and our sense of belonging.

Shifting the signal, we find a careful exploration of the politics of public space reflecting on our relationship with place, architecture and the networks that connect us. Between the frequencies, stories of shared histories surface, accompanied by echoes that call for solidarity and community. Thresholds become metaphors for visibility, access, and exclusion, turning the works into sites of inquiry about identity and social structures.

At the outer edge of the dial, we find artists embracing transgression of boundaries and social categories, blurring edges and disrupting structures that define us. Their work opens up spaces of possibility, offering new ways of thinking about our relationships with the environment, each other and more-than-human kin.

In many ways, Over and Out is more of a transmission than a closure. Unlike the silence that follows this phrase in radio communication, the artists’ works leave behind echoes, reminding us that endings are also beginnings. A signal once sent continues travelling outward, ready to be picked up, reinterpreted, and carried forward.
